Vikings Welcome Sergei Vahmistrovs to the Coaching Staff
The Orland Park Vikings are very proud to welcome Coach Sergei Vahmistrovs to the club. Sergei will be the Head Coach of our 2010 and 2011 birth year teams this upcoming season. Sergei is originally from Riga, Latvia where he grew up playing youth hockey eventually becoming a member of both the Junior and Senior Latvian National Teams. During that time, Sergei participated in multiple International Tournaments for Latvia, winning both Bronze and Gold Medals. Sergei also competed in the IIHF World Junior Championships as a member of Team Latvia in the Group B Division at both the U20 and U18 age groups. Sergei has also played at the Junior, Collegiate, and Minor Pro levels in North America.
Sergei has coached youth hockey at the AAA and CSDHL / AA levels for the past 17 years. Sergei has served as the FVIA Director of Hockey and as the Bantam / PW Director for the Leafs Hockey Club from 2014-2021. Prior to moving to Illinois, Sergei coached at the AA and AAA in Las Vegas. "We are very excited to bring Sergei into the Vikings family", says Vikings Hockey Director Nick Pollos. "Sergei brings a great deal of knowledge and experience to our Bantam level and our club overall. He will bring great balance to our staff as a strong skills instructor as well as being a veteran bench coach with strengths in both video review with his teams and competitive practices."
Sergei will begin working in our Spring Program over the next week or two at various levels.
